Meet Scilla Rose
Scilla Rose is a beautiful, petite, black and white, 11 month  old purebred female Border Collie who, through no fault of her own,  has lost her home and nearly lost her life a number of times.  Scilla had been treated by a veterinarian for a couple of months for an eye infection and seizures, but when she arrived at her  Madison foster home, it was apparent that her condition was rapidly  spreading and worsening.  Visits to a local holistic vet resulted in some emergency  treatment and the prescription of some powerful medications. An  appointment at the local university vet hospital was also  made.   What we had hoped would be a relatively straight-forward eye exam
quickly became more serious, when the vets recommended extensive,  expensive tests over a two day period.  A CT scan and numerous aspirate and biopsy samples indicated  that Scilla had damage to the bones in her head, a lesion behind  her eye and in her nose accompanied by massive infection and  inflammation, and a low- positive test result for the fungal  disease blastomycosis. Scilla continues to be on several
medications, and is on a special grain-free home- cooked diet along  with several supplements designed to enhance her immune system,  while reducing the lesion and the infection/inflammation.

Scilla's condition has improved slowly but steadily in the past  week. She is more active, and is able to play, take walks, and in  many ways enjoy the life of a dog. She is a happy, happy dog who  loves her foster pack and family, and is loved in turn by them. She  has a long way to go before she will be considered healthy or to  have a good prognosis, but she is a wonderful "patient" who teaches those around her many lessons. Please keep Scilla in your prayers  and do see Scilla's web site for updates on her progress.

Scilla has run up some vet bills as the vets try to determine what is wrong with her and how to treat her.  If you would like to make a donation towards her vet bills you can do so by clicking on the angel and making a donation through our Allison/Soda Guardian Angel Fund.

Allison and Soda Guardian Angel Fund

Allison Walsh was a young woman who loved animals and enjoyed being around them. She worked at the Zoo and was passionate about her job and the research work she did.  In 2005, she became a foster home for Midwest Border Collie Rescue.  She joined our group with a great love for animals and wanted to help foster Border Collies.  Allison selected a dog by the name of Soda to be her first foster dog.  Soda was like many of the high energy Border Collies we receive.

We, at Midwest Border Collie Rescue, are dedicated volunteers who open our hearts, lives and homes to ensure the safety of Border Collies.  We strive to provide quality care and shelter for the abused, unwanted and abandoned Border Collie, evaluate them and place each into proper and permanent homes, aiming for the best possible match.  We  provide care and continuous training information with each Border Collie we place.  It is our policy that adoptable Border Collies will not be euthanized due to lack of adoptive homes. Instead, we will keep the dog in our program as long as is necessary in order to find a suitable home.  Midwest Border Collie Rescue provides educational services and advice to potential and current Border Collie owners with respect to breed characteristics, proper care, health, training, and behavioral issues.
